This past weekend, Tyrone Maho helped coach the Dos Pueblos High School Mock Trial to an impressive 9th place finish in the 37th Annual California Mock Trial Finals in Santa Ana, California. This prestigious event was hosted by the Constitutional Rights Foundation, which introduced mock trial to California in 1980.
Mock Trial fosters understanding of our legal system, constitutional principles and the rule of law in high school students. Additionally, Mock Trial promotes critical thinking, analysis, and development of effective presentation skills. Tyrone Maho has been an assistant coach in the Mock Trial program for the past four years. “I am constantly amazed and inspired by the dedication these students put forth to Mock Trial,” stated Mr. Maho.
Mr. Maho has successfully assisted the DPHS team to win two county championships, a state championship, and most recently an impressive top 10 place finish in the State Finals in 2018. Each year, over 8,000 students from 36 California counties engage in the exploration of our legal system. By studying the case and preparing strategies and arguments for trial, students gain an understanding of both the content and process of our legal system, increase their communication and analytical skills, and interact with positive role models from their communities.
Both Tyrone Maho and Chad Prentice believe in giving back to the Santa Barbara community. Each of them have spent countless hours coaching and inspiring the youth through their leadership and dedication.
