California roads and freeways are busy places and adding alcohol to a driving situation often ends in tragedy. According to the California Office of Traffic Safety, traffic fatalities have increased steadily over the last few years. According to ABC7, the driver was driving extremely fast on the freeway when he slammed into the back of another car. The woman driving that car died at the scene and left behind a teenage daughter and husband. Several other cars were involved in the accident, and the impaired driver ended up with a facial fracture, broken ribs and a broken leg.
To add another twist to the story, the accident happened as the impaired driver was fleeing the scene of another accident he had caused. The driver has previously been convicted of felony attempt to elude and driving under the influence in another state. He is now charged with second-degree murder and could face life in prison if he is convicted with the current charges. Police believed he was speeding on the freeway to head to Mexico to escape charges.
